The luxury sport utility vehicle, Infiniti QX, is produced by Nissan Motors. It was first introduced in the model year 1996 as 1997 model. It shares its basic design with the Nissan pathfinder Regulus. The alphanumeric X in the QX refers to all wheel drive technology, which is designed based on ATTESA system from Nissan.
First Generation (1997-2003)
The Infiniti QX is the first vehicle in the sport utility segment. The mechanical specifications and most of the design features appear to be same as that of Pathfinder model. The only feature that differ the model from Pathfinder is its engine. The model released in this generation is marketed as QX4 in Japan, while it is called as Terrano in other countries.
The SUV model received minor modifications in the model year 2001, gaining more powerful engine, a 3.5 liter V6 version that delivers 240 hp of power. It is mated to 4-speed automatic transmission. It also gained an updated interior and exterior body styling. New features to the revised model include xenon HID headlamps, 17 inch alloy wheels and integrated analog clock.
The available safety features in the Infiniti QX model include traction control, antiskid system, curtain side air bags, front side air bags, electronic stability program, driver and passenger adjustable front seat, and antilock braking system.
The 5-door SUV, Infiniti QX is a replacement model to FX version from the same company, offered in either four wheel or rear wheel drive. As far as the dimensions of the model are concerned, it has the wheel base of 106.3 inches, length of 183.9 inches, width of 72.4 inches and height of 70.7 inches. The fuel tank in the engine has the capacity to fill up to 21.1 US gallons.
Second Generation (2004-Present)
The Infiniti QX is totally redesigned in the model year 2004 and it is designed based on the wagon model, Armada from Nissan. The SUV model in this generation is offered as QX56, which has the capacity to seat up to 8-passengers and it comes with new features like xenon headlights, 18 inch chrome wheels, wood and leather interior trim and power liftgate.
The engine equipped in the SUV model is 5.6 liter V8 version that is used in the Armada model, but produces more power. It can generate up to 315 hp of power at 4900 rpm and torque of 390 lb ft at 3600 rpm. It comes mated to 5-speed automatic transmission. With the V8 engine, the current generation QX model can achieve fuel economy of 13 mpg in the city premises and 18 mpg on the highway roads.
The standard features in the 2009 Infiniti QX model include navigation system, second row seats, rear obstacle detection and power adjustable pedals, while it offers radar cruise control, rear DVD entertainment system and satellite radio as optional. The sports utility model has the capacity to tow up to 8900 lbs.
